Triad restaurant seeks to become national brand

What do Cookout, East Coast Wings and Krispy Kreme all have in common?

They all got their start here in the Triad, and plans are in place to launch the next national food franchise here called Sammy’s Sliders.

Sam Ballas cofounded East Coast Wings in the Piedmont twenty years ago. It now has nearly forty locations across the country. He’s also the rising chairman of the International Franchise Association.

He’s partnered with Sam Gianopoulos, a Johnson and Wales graduate who owns several fine dining and casual restaurants in the Piedmont. The two Sams came together to create Sammy’s Sliders three years ago. The fast casual menu includes sixteen slider sandwiches featuring burgers, fish and chicken.

FOX8 FOODIE Shannon Smith took a trip to Sammy’s Sliders to see why the owners believe it could be the next big national brand.
